Article discusses the differences and similarities between Houten Centre and Houten Vinex and concludes that it is a successful attempt to package old traffic principles in modern urban planning.

  • In Houten Vinex, the new extension of Houten, the emphasis is back on the bicycle. That means diverting the car to the ring road and short connections for the cyclist. However, the bicycle paths have also been adapted to the latest principles of urban planning: long straight distances and less ‘socially unsafe’ green. In the existing Houten, streets have been transformed into bicycle streets by, for instance, increasing the recognisability of the cycle routes.
