Relatively compact, flat, many students: Ghent has good conditions for intensive bicycle use. Since 1993, the municipality has promoted an active bicycle policy in order to use these conditions. And with success: the population of Ghent has taken to their bicycles. And because politicians and public servants have thought about cycling, this has stimulated traffic policy in Ghent. The bicycle policy has resulted in a local mobility policy, which is considered the most dynamic in Flanders.
