In 2013 in the Netherlands, 570 persons died as a result of traffic accidents. That is 80 down on the previous year, a reduction of more than 12%.

The number of fatal accidents for motor cyclists fell, as well as for car passengers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Casualties were down for almost every mode of transport. The number of fatal cycle accidents fell by 8%. As in previous years, most fatal accidents occurred to motorists: even in this group there was a fall of 17%. The number of children between the ages of 0 and 18 killed in traffic accidents fell from 40 on 2012, to 23 in 2013, a drop of 42.5%.
In 2013, fewer seniors (65 and over) were involved in fatal road accidents. With a total of 230 fatal accidents, this is still a vulnerable group, especially the cyclists among them.
