Compared with other age groups, there are relatively few fatalities in Dutch traffic among children between the ages of 0 and 14. Moreover, in recent years traffic safety for children has significantly improved. However, considerably more older children (12-14 years) participate in traffic than younger children. This is because older children are more frequent cyclists. It is therefore important for the traffic safety policy to focus on the safety of cycling children. In addition it is important to continue to strive at lower speed limits in residential areas.
