Compared to other age groups, relatively few children aged 0-14 die in Dutch traffic. Moreover, in recent years traffic safety has increased considerably, particularly for children. At the same time, however, considerably more older children (aged 12-14) than younger children are killed in traffic, because as they grow older, they participate in traffic much more as cyclists. It is therefore important in traffic safety policies to pay extra attention to the safety of cycling children. In addition it is important to continue to strive for lower driving speeds in residential areas.
