Utrecht local authorities surveyed consumers’ opinions of community parkings and bike bins. Of the consumers of community parkings 64% prefer the parking, 15% would rather park in a bike bin. Of the users of bike bins 71% would rather park in a bike bin, whereas 17% would prefer a community parking. For bin users the limited walking distance is the overriding consideration. Users of community parkings prefer these as they feel bins do not blend into the environment and because of the parking’s ease of use. Many bin users (53%), however, complain about the narrow spaces available for bicycles. And 43% feel the price of € 53.19 a year to be too high for a space in a bin, whereas 57% feel the price is exactly right. Of the users of the community parking 78% feel the price of € 35.46 to be exactly right.
