Amsterdam to restrict the duration of street parking

In the future, bicycles will only be allowed to remain unused on the streets of central Amsterdam for a limited period. As a result of high bicycle ownership among inhabitants of Amsterdam, increasing numbers of broken bicycles are left unattended in public spaces.

This is the reason why the municipality wants to severely reduce the number of unattended bicycles (wrecks and abandoned bicycles) left in open spaces within public and residential areas. A proposal has been submitted to limit the time during which unattended bicycles can remain on the street. A period of 6 weeks is being considered for residential areas. Such a parking limitation is nothing new; a limit of two weeks already applies in a number of places the capital, and at the Leidseplein this limit is one week.
