In total, the project will cost an estimated € 48 million, including the cost for a new station square. It is expected to be ready in 2016. In the area around the central railway station of Utrecht, parking places for 22,000 bikes will be created in the next five years. 4,200 of these will be in place before the summer to the west side of the station, on the Jaarbeursplein. A further 2,000 will be added out on the Westplein, slightly further from the station.
These new parking places will reduce the time cyclists need to find a place to park their bike and get to public transport or their destination.
