Construction is due to start in 2017. The parking is part of plans to improve the accessibility of the station area by adding 17,500 parking places in 2020, rising to 21,500 in 2030.

Not only are facilities planned underground. A ground level parking for 1,300 bicycles inside the station building is also being planned. Construction, by ProRail, is expected to start later this year. Finally, there is a plan for two floating parking docks on the river IJ, with place for 4,000 bicycles.

A new, spacious parking  (with 4,200 places) will be built on the site of the current parking, on the southwestern side. These new places will permanently replace the 10,000 current places, which are almost all provisional.
