Heerlen subsidizes electric bikes for senior citizens

People over sixty in the town of Heerlen will receive a subsidy when they buy a new electric bicycle. Local authorities have set aside € 100,000 overall.

This is because local authorities want to promote cycling, in order to reduce the emission of particularly fine dust particles and CO2, as this reduces health risks and contributes to a better climate. Furthermore, the more cyclists, the less cars on the road, local authorities reason.
In addition cycling is also good for individual health and electric bicycles keep the elderly mobile, particularly in Heerlen where cyclists regularly encounter hills.
In this project the authorities cooperate with local bicycle shops.
