Zwolle is one of the top towns in the Netherlands when it comes to bicycle use as well as the ‘bicycle climate on the street’. This is reflected by the Fietsbalans nominations for Cycling Town of the Year in 2000 and 2002. What is the explanation? An interview with one of the main players: Willem Bosch, the face of bicycle policy in Zwolle for almost fifteen years, and Rutger Ekhart, municipal policy advisor for Traffic and Transportation. The article addresses: spatial aspects, separate networks, main cycle routes, cycle lanes and bicycle parking facilities.
