Introduction How can the tools of commercial marketing be translated into bicycle policy? That question is at the forefront of the project Marktgericht Fietsbeleid that Fietsberaad initiated in 2008. Although marketing involves much more than merely advertising campaigns, communication and promotion are nevertheless important factors. Practical experiences with communication and promotional campaigns in bicycle policy are limited in the Netherlands. There are mostly modest campaigns with limited funds. Yet even these experiences may inspire new ideas. In addition it is not necessary to keep re-inventing the wheel. Therefore Fietsberaad has commissioned XTNT Experts in Traffic and Transport to compile a survey of bicycle campaigns in the recent past. The result can be found in this publication.
