Demolition bonus for bicycles
15-06-2009
The German city of Mannheim is introducing a demolition bonus for bicycles. Unlike cars, the bicycles will not be shredded, but restored.
The whimsical idea is to provide a trade-in bonus to people buying a new bicycle at a local bike shop. People that want to take up the offer need to provide the receipt for a new bicycle (no racing bikes, mountain bikes or children’s bikes) and hand in an old but serviceable bicycle. For the time being the action - dreamed up by the local mayor - only involves the first one hundred bicycles.
