Charging bike with public transport pass
In Rotterdam electric bikes and scooters may be charged by means of the OV- chipkaart, the Dutch public transport pass. The first charging station providing this service has opened in the guarded bicycle parking facility on the Rotterdam Meent.
The new charging stations provide Eneco Ecopower and users may charge their e-bikes, e-scooters or even e-cars by means of the public transport pass, developed in co-operation with the public transport company RET. Charging will be free until January 2010, until then the public transport pass will serve as identification. In September two additional public charging stations for small vehicles will be opened as well.
Depending on the pilot’s success, there will be charging stations at more locations in Rotterdam. Nationwide Eneco and Sparta intend to open over 800 NRGSPOTS public small vehicles in 2010.Incidentally this year bike manufacturer Sparta will deliver the 300,000th e-bike with ION technology. The new charging station includes a dedicated connection for Sparta ION e-bikes, besides a general connection suitable for all small vehicles. Therefore the dedicated chargers may be left at home in future.
