Bike and Chill

A synthetic bench with a semi-sunk bicycle parking facility. This design won first prize in a design competition organised by a manufacturer of synthetic products.

Apart from its combination of functions, it constitutes a valuable design element in the public domain, according to the jury. The jury also felt the designers had made excellent use of the opportunities provided by the material. Not only in its appearance, but also in its expansion possibilities. The bike bench consists of individual components that may be linked in a curving pattern. This creates a cheerful environment whilst hiding the bicycles from view. "Bike & chill" has initially been created for the square in front of Den Haag Centraal train station, but may be applied elsewhere, too, for instance in schools and in recreational areas.

Het idee om een bank te combineren met een fietsenstalling kwam ik ook tegen bij La4sale architecten,
