In the cycling capital of Switzerland the emphasis has been on expansion of public transport for the last couple of years. But bicycle facilities have been steadily upgraded as well. Leading to only 30% of car transfers.

Favourable conditions for cycling and good quality of life are closely related. Stadtmarketing Winterthur uses this argument as a promotional tool for the city. The fact that Winterthur is the cycling capital and has as such won several awards over the past ten years, can be gleaned from numerous locations on the town’s website. Cyclists themselves also appreciate cycling policies. Thanks to a consistent bicycle policy the environmentally-friendly transport modalities managed to maintain their strong position since 1990 , despite infrastructural changes, dynamic growth of traffic, an increase in car ownership and changing mobility needs.
