Until January 1, 2003 the building code demanded every new private residence to be provided with a storage shed meeting certain minimum requirements. However, the ministry involved has dropped this demand as of January 1, in line with the general reduction in government rules. The four major cities are not pleased and have asked the minister to reverse this decision or allow them to specify requirements themselves. A justified question, as parking bicycles at private residences most certainly requires more than meeting the minimum demands stated by the old building code.
2010
As of 2012 new residences in France are to be equipped with a covered or safe place to park a bicycle. Charge facilities for electric bicycles will be required as well.
