The study CBS Onderzoek Dagrecreatie 2003 shows that in 2001-2002 68% of the Dutch population, some 11 million people, went on a recreational daytrip by bicycle. This makes cycling the most important daytrip activity, behind walking. Almost 48 million recreational daytrips lasting at least 2 hours each, were made by bicycle in all.
