Stimulating the use of bicycles is regularly met with objections, not in the least in political and administrative circles. The recurring themes are always:
• Cycling is dangerous.
• Cycling is a thing of the past, when distances were shorter.
• Bicycle policies are of no use, people will drive anyhow.
It is necessary and possible to refute these assertions.
